Spitfire AD 540 Blue Peter
Spitfire AD 540 Blue Peter crashed in 1942 on the slopes of Cairnsmore of Carsphairn. The pilot P.O. David Hunter Blair was sadly killed and his body was found on Dugland Hill.
After a long search, the remains of the aircraft were recovered by Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum in 1993. The event was filmed by the children's TV programme which shared the Spitfire's name.
