Carsphairn Heritage Centre was officially opened on the 18th April 1992 to invited attendees, and to the public on 19th April 1992.
The Centre, an aspiration of the Carsphairn Heritage Group, took four years of hard work and planning to bring to fruition.
The hill shepherd’s style cottage building that we see today was built on the site of a former filling station at the northern entrance to the village and was funded by the former Scottish Development Agency, the Stewarty District Council and the Scottish Countryside Commission with Solway Heritage acting as the enabling body.
The Heritage Centre has seen many wonderful exhibitions over the years, and continues to host regular open days. The building also provides a safe home for the excellent collection of historic items that have been amassed over more that 35 years.
A celebration of the Centre’s history will take place over the 2022 Easter Weekend, when the Centre will be open from 10am-2pm on both Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April.
