This exhibition is a collection of research carried out by the late Mr Willie McInnes of Dalmellington, Ayrshire and the late Mr Jim Reid of Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, both great supporters of Carsphairn Heritage Group. Their collective work looks at the tragic sequence of events which led to the last public execution of a female in Scotland - 27 year old Mary Timney of Carsphad (Carsfad).
Mary Timney's journey to the gallows began on 13 January 1862 in the remote rural surroundings of Carsphad, south of Carsphairn at the eastern edge of what is now known as the Galloway Forest Park. It is said that she brutally murdered her neighbour Ann Hannah at her home which was situated adjacent to that of Mary.
It is with kind permission of Mr McInnes and Mr Reid's families that we are able to reproduce and present their collective findings.
