Local Information

Carsphairn is a small village with a lot going on! We're in Dumfries & Galloway, South West Scotland, roughly equidistant between the seaside town of Ayr and the market town of Castle Douglas, on the A713 Galloway Tourist Route.

We're the most northerly parish in the Glenkens, the picturesque, wild area which follows the route of the Ken Valley. The parish is around 100 square miles in area but only has around 200 residents.

For such a small place, we are very well served with village amenities. There is a lovely village shop with tea room, our renowned Heritage Centre and the pretty Community Garden. We have a well regarded Primary School, an historic Parish Church and our village hall (Lagwyne Hall) is ideal for community events as well as private hires.

We have a vibrant and involved local community with many groups and activities, from Pub Nights in the hall to The Show, the most prestigious agricultural event for Blackface Sheep.

If you're coming for a break, we've several places to stay and you couldn't get a better location for outdoor pursuits, whether it's fishing, walking, cycling or even kayaking that floats your boat.

Situated on the sloping side of the Rhinns of Kells, the mountainous ridge which separates Kirkcudbrightshire from Ayrshire, we're on the edge of Galloway Forest Park and within the UNESCO Galloway and Southern Ayrshire Biosphere with all the outdoor opportunities they have to offer.

Looking east towards the UK's first Dark Skies Park, you'll be able to see some of the best night skies in Europe. If it's the other kind of stars you're after, we've got that too, as every May Knockengorroch's famous World Ceilidh brings musicians from all over the world to our quiet little corner.

Whether it's a cuppa and a cake, a weekend break or a move to the country, we've got it all.

Oh and a warm welcome, we've got that too!
