Carsphairn Heritage Group started its life with an exhibition of local history in Lagwyne Hall.
By 1987 it was a fully formed group with a collection of family history records, photographs, slides and locally significant artifacts.
The Heritage & Craft Centre was built in 1992 to house the collection, provide space for a yearly exhibition and to provide a focus point for visitors carrying out family research.
The Heritage Group are continuing this evolutionary legacy in 2019 by launching an exciting project to digitise our entire collection.
Carsphairn Heritage Group would like to digitise our collection of historical records, photographs and local family histories in order to make it accessible to people wherever they are in the world, helping people connect with and understand their heritage; and preserving the collection and information therein, as a real legacy for future generations.
The collection includes thousands of items and will be carried out in phases, including both volunteers and professional assistance, eventually leading to a searchable on-line database and increasing Carsphairn Heritage Centre's attractiveness and usage by both visitors and the local community.
In order to achieve all this, the Centre will not be opening in 2019. However, we will continue to do our best to help with genealogical queries via email.
This is a huge undertaking for the Committee and if you'd like to support our work, you can do so in a number of ways:
