Title

Notelet of Tunskin

Description

Back: Adopted in 1965, Tunskeen was the fist bothy to be renovated by the Mountain Bothies Association and has been chosen this year to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of the MBA. Records show that in late 1912, herder William Templeton, helped by the local Doctor and shephard, carried his wife Mary for 5 miles from Tunskeen to Ballochbeatties on a stretcher fashioned from boards laid across a wooden chair. She was suffering from severe appendicitis at the time but received treatment and lived until the age of 90. The Mountina Bothies Assiciation (a Scottish Charity SC008685) was founded in 1965 to maintain simple shelters in remote country for the use and benefit of all who love wild and lonely places.
